The Perfect Prayer: Muammer Eroğlu’s novel A Time-Defying Journey is philosophy and history depicted in the context of the economic and social condition of contemporary Turkey which is both intellectual and a good read. Just like in Space Odyssey, a normal man named Adam finds himself in strange time reality where in events from the past, the present and future form a spiral shape and begin to happen.

Adam’s adventure starts with the unknown ancient object that is able to transcend the concept of time. An object could be a door which lead him to different copy of reality exposing him to characters from different time periods, the prehistoric, future, and more. While Marlow’s multiple timeliness provide him with insights into the nature of the colonialist mission and the heart of darkness, Adam gets into situations that make him question the reality and his place in it and question the nature of the.

At this level of its plot the novel combines science and science fiction with references to philosophy and even elements of historical fiction. The Perfect Prayer illustrates cyclicity of time and decisions made where moments are cyclic and we see new meanings originate each time. For alternative timeline to exist, Adam must also reconcile himself to the belief that ever event is intertwined, and one’s action may have a ripple effect on the other timelines.

In course of the novel the reader discovers that the reason why Adam was granted travel through time is not merely to comprehend time, but to discover crucial secret that may help change the course of history. It involves question and answer session about destiny, free will and timelessness, which makes a reading experience more thoughtful and engaging.
